Do you/your child have a full set of dentures? A partial Palate?

I have a full set, top and bottom and have done since the age of 5. rabbit

I had all my milk teeth out age 6 and then had none, except the few that turned up until age 13, gradually lost all and now have one root which is on it's last legs. Otherwise have had pretty much a full set of dentures since age 25. Don't think twice about it, has been like this so long. The amount of work I had done on the few teeth I had, I'm glad to see the back of them, they were nothiing but trouble and didn't have much aesthetic appeal either!

I've had a set on top and bottom since I was 12 ish. It's never been a problem - even when I was growing up and snogging boys! And I can laugh at my friends who still fear a trip to the dentist! I did once look into implants but the idea of yet more general anaestetics (can't spell) put me off!
And as I've got older and more self assured I've told close mates who I've known for years and they've had no idea!

I too was looking into the possibility of the implants but it looked very painful. I'm happy as I am now!

It's strange to note that in these days of preventative dentistry and keeping teeth at all costs that we seem quite happy with the fact that we don't have many/any. Dentistry profession take note! There is also the expense! Implants cost an arm and a leg.

Hi berty!

Yeah, the cost of implants is one major factor that steers me clear of them, however I'm happy with dentures!

Welcome, where abouts in Middlesbrough are you from?

PostSubject: Re: Dentures   Tue 29 Aug 2006 - 12:46

Oh my God - how much? Is that right? I have to say I don't know how much they are meant to cost - all my dentures and plates were done at Great Ormond Street from the ages of 10 to 19 when I finally got thrown out! Too old apparently! I then went to the eastman which I personally thought was crap - and I then found my own community dentist (free!!!) who made my last upper and lower set ( due to the fact that I was still wearing a very old set and much loved set that I had outgrown!) about 10 years ago.
Do you know if you have a community dentist near you? It might be worth checking out.
Mine was the one who referred me to my local hospital to talk about implants - on the NHS - but it was my decission not to have them as I did not want any more ops at that time. So I got the new set of dentures and they have been brilliant.
I often thought it was because I had them at such a young age - over dentures at the age of 10 - that that was why I didn't notice they were in my mouth. My Mum had to have a plate fitted once (not ED related ) and she gaged every time she tried to put it in her mouth.
I hope some of this helps - has anyone else an idea of weather this price is correct?

I knew it was expensive but not that much??

I'm the same, I think having dentures from such a young age makes me think that its right and normal. I'd have too much trouble if I got implants! Teething problems, should we say Laughing

I have had dentures since I was at primary school. They have not really given me much problems but I have never liked them. I had treatment at Birmingham hospital for many years and was then discharged. My local NHS dentist then referred me back after I had to have a milk tooth taken out. The dentist I saw has said I can have treatment there again including implants and I have said yes even though its going to be a gruelling 4 years I really cant wait to be able to do a big toothy smile!! I did look into getting them before they are so expensive! affraid
