The advice i have is more geared towards coping with damaged mouth for long periods of time... The whole process took about 2.5 years and was like 4 surgeries, about 6 rather large in office "unveilings/stitch removal/lasering...etc..."..(however i had some bone grafting done, which may not be necessary in all cases)..

FYI- Insurance companies are a joke...this was out of pocket money/donations... Apparently my insurance (which is good) deems my complete lack of teeth "Not a pressing medical issue"...HA!

Look into the Addison Gibson Foundation if you're in the US...they contributed about $40,000 worth of surgical work. All told the bill was around $100,000 (Both for the surgies and the prosthetic teeth) ...Thanks mom! (More cost effective routes exist for implents so please don't be deterred by the large cost) I found it funny though that insurance would cover the medication after the surgeries though.

Also to be noted; when the process of implants begin...no improvement is made until the final day the implants are in your mouth...meaning there is no gradual benefit from the surgeries and such until it's ALL DONE. This plays very heavily on your mind as you will be eatting apple sauce for years...until one day you have pearly whites :-D

HI Lisa, nice to hear from you!

Hey buddy. This is something I was talking about to my dentist last year but after a series of x-rays it indicated that the bone in my gums is far too thin to build upon. Grafts using cow shin were an option but this put me off big time!

I've had dentures since I was 5 years old so it's normal for me. I think I'll stick with what I know!

Bone grafts taken from the your own body have a much higher success rate...That being said they took about 4 inches from the crown of my hip and it was a long recovery process. I also had marrow taken, as well as collagen from around my rib but the bone graft was much more serious.

Surgeons strongly recommend opting for a bone graft from your own body as opposed to anything else.

Also to be noted...i didn't wear dentures my whole life, and chewed with my gums thus degrading the bone in my upper mouth. This made the bone graft necessary. I've also been told that dentures wear away at bone density too, so if you've been wearing dentures for an extended period of time then the chances of needing a graft are significantly improved.

Hope i'm helping someone.

I have a full set of implants, before then I'd had dentures all my life, it was relatively painless for me, I just had a graft taken from my hip and then after that had taken I had the implants put in.

It was 3 years ago so I guess it's much easier to look back on it than if it were more recent but yeah I'm pretty pleased with it

Addison Gibson Foundation is only for those who live in residents of western Pennsylnavia. I live in Idaho so that doesn't help me. I need to come up with ways of raising $70 thousand for a full mouth reconstruction which will include 10-12 implants. I am to the point I have to do something since I am going on such a downward spiral. I have worn upper partial for 21 years and upper 13. I am to the point that I could lose all my teeth and have the severe pain continue to increase. I was told ones it gets to a point there was no going back. That is so scary being faced with with this.

Hi, how much it costs to make implants?

I have 2 children currently 5 and 3 wit mild ED. So far the worst symptom is lack of the lower incisors. At about 14 we have to decide if we make implants or denture if they will not grow. What are the cons and pros ? I know that denture is a fraction of the price of inplants. How much implants cost at the moment (eg 4 incisors?)

I guess it's difficult to tell - as different countries and varying health services will all have an impact on the overall cost of the implants, and also, the extent of the procedure itself will be a deciding factor. Good luck!
